Heuristics

Jakob Nielsen's heuristics provided a method in which we were able to objectively rate websites according to 10 key features listed to the right. Each heuristic for each website was scored on a scale of 1-5 (1 needing major changes, 5 being nearly perfect).

  1. Visibility of System Status

  2. Match Between System & Real World

  3. User Control & Freedom

  4. Consistency & Standards

  5. Error Prevention

  6. Recognition Rather than Recall

  7. Flexibility & Efficiency of Use

  8. Aesthetic & Minimalist Design

  9. Help Users Recognize, Diagnose, & Recover from Errors

  10. Help & Documentation

The presentation on the left gives a visual representation of the final scores from the heuristic evaluation. AmCham Romania is boxed in red.

Final Results

After performing the Heuristic Evaluation, the group was able to rank each of the AmChams' websites and see the areas in which they excelled and could be improved. With all that said the final ranking ended up as showed below.

  1. Poland - 43.75 points

  2. Germany and Sweden - 38.75 points

  3. Romania - 37.25 points

  4. Bulgaria - 31 points

  5. Hungary - 29.5 points

*To find the percentage score just divide the points of a country by 50

As seen above, there was a wide gap between the first place (Poland) and the last place (Hungary). If we consider percentages, Poland's website is 28.5% closer to an ideal website than Hungary's, which is a significant difference. From the graph it is also noticeable that there are 3 different tiers between the websites. Poland stands alone in the tier 1; while Germany, Sweden, and Romania are all in tier 2; and lastly Bulgaria and Hungary are in tier 3. Even though they are divided into tiers, it doesn't mean that AmCham Poland's website will be the best in every category. Instead, it says that the higher a website is on the ranking, the closer it is to the ideal website design.
