Interview Process

In order to gather information regarding business expansion into the US, we interviewed staff members from the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce and Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. Along with the chambers of commerce, we interviewed another organization in Massachusetts. However, due to legal reasons, the interviewee and organization will remain confidential and from here on will be referred to as Organization X.

The staff at the the chambers of commerce, both in Worcester and in Boston, were asked questions regarding what their chamber does and provides for their members. Along with this, we asked what resources they provide to international companies looking to expand into both the US and the local area. For the interview with Organization X, we asked questions that were more centered around the process a company must go through to expand into the US and Massachusetts. We also asked what resources can be provided to international companies wanting to expand. (For a list of the questions asked and the consent script, see the Additional Information tab.)

From the answers and opinions gathered during these interviews, we were able to understand the process of expanding a business into a foreign market as well as the considerations that need to be taken. This information, as well as any resources, were used to help create our deliverable website for AmCham Romania.

To gather the most useful information, the interviews were conducted either over Zoom or over the phone and will used open ended questions so that the interviewees can have the opportunity to elaborate upon their answers. These interviews were conducted on a voluntary basis and any identifying information was kept confidential.

Interview Analysis

To draw conclusions from the interview responses we coded the responses and placed the responses into categories. By coding the responses, we were able to assign different words or phrases to the responses. Once they were coded, the responses were placed into different categories based upon where the codes fit. With the categories, we were able to identify trends among the responses based upon the size of the categories. With this information, we were then able to further understand the different aspects of business expansion into a foreign market, resources that may be helpful to these businesses, and the role of the chamber of commerce in their area.
