This project allowed students to learn how social media impacts its users. Students looked at statistics and articles to determine their opinions on the impacts of social media usage in their everday life.
After working in this module and completing this project, I learned that social media is more prevalent in my life than I thought. Prior to this module and project, I had never known that some of the apps I use everday could qualify as social media. This made me re-evaluate how much time I devote to my phone.

Are You Addicted to Social Media?
Prior to taking the quiz, I thought I was a moderate user of social media. I didn't believe I was addicted, but I also acknowledged that I relied on it to a certain extent. The result I received was "You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits!", which proved my prediction correct. I do think I would be happier if I could stop "doom scrolling" on occasion. Doom scrolling is where you sit down to check social media and end up scrolling for an hour or two at a time. I suppose the quiz made me want to change the habits I've formed around social media usage.
YouTube and Reddit have seen an increase in users since 2019. About 81% of Americans have reported using YouTube showing an increase from 73%. Reddit also had notable changes as it went from having 11% of users to 18%. Other apps have remained stagnant since 2019 (Pew Research Center, 2021). YouTube is one of my most used social media apps too.
Social media in recent years has become a topic of interest due to both it's positive and negative impacts on society. In my opinion, I think social media is neither good nor bad. I believe that some negative impacts from personal experience is that social media can lead to poor mental health and make people glamourize risky behaviors demonstrated on social media. Some positive aspects of social media is that it allows for people to contact their loved ones and share their proudest moments online. There are pros and cons to using social media and it's important that people understand the risks and rewards associated with constantly using social media. Only the individual using social media can decide what they can handle or what is best for them.
