Quirk of the Alvis Stalwart, is that the handbrake is a constricting band type that operates on the front bevel boxes.
To apply - ratchet the lever up and down a number of times until there is no further upward travel. It will then return to its lowest position.
To release; there is no progressive release, apply the footbrake first, press the button on top of the grip and hinge the grip downwards.
