Maria Carolina

Nel ritratto accanto vediamo rappresentata la regina Maria Carolina, moglie di Ferdinando IV di Borbone. Nacque a Vienna da una delle più antiche e importanti famiglie reali europee. Sua madre era la regina Maria Teresa d'Asburgo e la sorella la famosa Maria Antonietta che fu ghigliottinata in Francia in seguito alla Rivoluzione. Ricevette l'educazione perfetta per adempiere al ruolo di regina. Parlava quattro lingue: tedesco, francese, italiano e spagnolo e studiò molte discipline.

Aveva 16 anni quando, in seguito alla morte di due sorelle maggiori dovette sposare Ferdinando IV, senza aver mai visto il futuro marito. Il 7 aprile 1768 le campane suonarono all'unisono a Vienna e a Napoli: erano sposati. Carolina partì da Vienna con 57 carrozze e giunse a Napoli. Quando vide il marito non ebbe una buona impressione.

The woman in the picture is the queen Maria Carolina, Ferdinando IV ' wife. She was born in Vienna from one of the most ancient and important royal european families. Her mother was Maria Teresa empress. She was educated perfectly for becoming a queen. She could speak four languages: italian, german, french and spanish. She studied latin, art, science, botanic, philosophy ....

At the age of 16 she had to marry Ferdinando of Borbone, after the death of her two older sisters. She didn't know her future housband. In 7th of April 1768, at 12 o clock the bells rang at the same time in Vienna and Naples: they were married. Carolina set out on a long journey through Italy with 57 carriages and she arrived in her new reign. When she saw for the first time her housband she was disgusted.
