Standard 7 - Assessment – The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student 6 growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.
Below are two artifacts that display my ability to use varying assessment techniques. The first artifact is a google form I created. Using technology as an assessment allows teachers to collect data in a clear and concise manner for future usage. It also allows teachers to be effective and flexible as the standard calls for "effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student." Google forms are a great way to create assessments because they can be edited so quickly and accommodated for all students by the additional supports of photos or visual representations.
The second artifact is a project I created for a Math lesson. The lesson was about even and odd numbers. I chose this artifact as evidence of "uses appropriate summative assessments for determining students needs..." I believe the multiple uses of assessment shows my growth as an educator. I used many different forms of both formative and summative assessments throughout the lesson including the visual representation. This I believe is a good measurement of assessing student's understanding of even and odd numbers. I also really enjoy this lesson because I used a trade book as an anchor text for a math lesson and concluded it with an arts visual representation. I believe this cross curricular infusion would help me meet the needs of many diverse learners who could all find a niche to understand this lesson.
