Philosophy Of Education
As an educator I have specific beliefs that guide my teaching and path in life. I believe that cultural awareness helps to cultivate a better understanding of ourselves. True collaboration happens when we infuse diversity within our team. All students are accepted and viewed as unique individuals. If they can not learn the way I am teaching, I will change the way I teach. Also, social emotional development and self advocacy are as essential as academics in my classroom. I am called to teach. This isn’t just work, it is my passion.
I believe in collaboration. Collaboration between colleagues, students, parents and myself creates a functional team. Also, a collaborative diverse team means bringing people together to invest in the future outcomes of the whole child. Diversity consists, and is not limited to; race, gender, culture, religion and neurological differences. When we celebrate a full spectrum of human differences we are given opportunities to extend our worldview through the experiences of others. When we collaborate together we are given opportunities to practice authentic acceptance.
I believe in Neurodiversity. Neurodiverse individuals experience, interact with, and interpret the world in unique ways. All students are accepted into my classroom and viewed as the unique individuals that they are. All students have the ability to learn and reach their full potential. Like a Detective, I will find the way they learn best and modify the learning environment or instruction to suit their needs.
I believe in goals. When we make a goal, we try our best to reach it. If we don’t reach our goal, we reflect and adapt, we don’t give up. While in my care, my students will feel safe, secure and heard. I will foster a caring environment that helps them focus on achievement and reflection. I use positive reinforcement for hard work. My expectations are high and that level of achievement deserves praise and reward. I commit to help my students fill their personal and emotional toolboxes with a multitude of strategies that will aid them as they explore our classroom, our school and our community. Students will take an active part of our classroom with a role and responsibility that contributes to our room daily. This responsibility will give them a sense of self fulfillment, community and self advocating skills that they can continue to use on their learning paths.
I believe in life-long learning and advocacy. Learning does not stop when the bell rings. We are always growing and always learning, even for myself. Growth doesn’t stop or end with school work and I will model that as I learn and grow alongside my students. I believe in working hard and becoming the best version of yourself. I am called to teach. It is a passion of mine that is fueled by my neurodiverse daughter. In me, my students and families can trust that they always have someone by their side supporting them. A true advocate. I hope to inspire families to also become an educated advocate for their child.
These are specific beliefs that guide my teaching and life currently. Cultural awareness helps and collaboration with a
diverse team enriches our lives and learning. All students are accepted, viewed as unique individuals and have the
ability to learn sometimes in unique ways. High standards include social emotional development and advocacy are as
essential as academics in my classroom. I believe in teaching as a calling and passion. I am called to teach and I will.
