This short media clip shows that simple acts of kindness can brighten not only one person's day, but their entire outlook. When we receive kindness we don't keep it for ourselves, it has a way of spreading or coloring our world, making it a better place. This video spoke to me because of the visual aides of color and symbolism used. Students can literally see the change in the characters as they are treated kindly they are changed from gray (unhappy) to color (happy). This symbolism can help them make that internal connection to emotions and how even they can effect change in our world by simply being kind.
So often children who learn differently have difficulty with their self confidence. This short clip can inspire children to create a growth mindset around learning new things and that mistakes will happen, but there is nothing wrong with that as long as they don't give up. It can inspire students to be kind to themselves as they navigate new situations and challenges as well, when mistakes happen, you can get up and give yourself a pep talk to get back at the hard task. We never give up, we keep going and keep working on our confidence!
I love this video! I think that this could work for explaining to children and adults that innovation isn't just about a new idea, but the implement of taking that idea and creating something that changes our world. New ideas and innovations change our world by progressing us forward and sometimes these innovations aren't always supported, but that shouldn't stop anything from trying to make something new work because you never know if your new dots are the next big thing!
Do we have to overcome failure or should we be thinking of failure as just a way of life? In order to be good at something you have to fail at it when you first try it, right? I mean, no one is good at everything the first time. I love this video because Will Smith is a famous actor who is describing failure as just a part of life. Failure as a way to be successful by pushing yourself by failing a lot. Let's not only embrace success, but let's embrace our failure because without it we wouldn't have the skills and mindset that we do.
Accepting the challenge of expressing joy with no words was not an easy task, but I stumbled across this short video about an interaction between a dog and bird. I love how it shows that they really didn't get along at first because the dog didn't realize why the bird needed his fisherman's worms. Upon learning that the bird was a mom trying to feed her babies, the dog changes his mind and decides to spread some joy to the bird family. This video could be used in multiple ways. I would use to it to show students that you can spread joy to others because you never know what that person is going through. This dog was able to find out and turn it around for the better, but you may not get that chance in life.
