Standard 2 - Content Area and Pedagogical Knowledge – The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
The artifact I am highlighting for this standard is a lesson plan I wrote and used for my special education student teaching placement. I chose this artifact because I believe it shows my ability to structure a lesson plan within the content area of English Language Arts. I also think that this lesson plan displays my ability to create "meaningful learning experiences for each student." In my lesson plan I have specific accommodations and modifications keeping in mind particular students in the classroom environment. Here is the link to my Lesson Plan. I really enjoyed learning about each student and incorporating their needs into my lesson plan.
Below is a video my Heggarty lesson. Heggarty is a phonemic awareness program that is "evidence based" to improve the content area of English Language Arts. I chose this video because it displays usage of "current evidence based interactions within the content area." I also chose this video because it is good evidence of my ability to create meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon these interactions with the content area. I really enjoy the Heggarty program and learned a lot about all the elements that go into good reading instruction as well as classroom management.
