Definition: Planning for learning is defined as lesson planning with a wide variety of resources, creating deep and thoughtful questions, and including practices from First Nations, Metis, and Inuit. Planning also includes creating assignments and interactive activities that allow students to apply their knowledge insightfully while keeping them engaged. Teachers need to plan according to students understanding and learning styles to ensure proper learning.
Goal: I want to be able to make long-range lesson plans that benefit all students and learning needs. I want to maintain students' interest and active engagement with the subject matter by employing a variety of strategies, including videos and in-person demonstrations (TQS 3a).
Goal: I want to create a variety of tasks and activities that align with curricular outcomes, allow critical thinking, and encourage student participation, cooperation, and choice while planning for various learning pathways for both individuals and groups of students (TQS 3a).
Strategies: I want to create helpful, interactive, and insightful lesson plans both with the help of my mentor teacher and on my own as well.
Reflection: Although I did complete my goal for this competency, I wish I could have done more. I wanted to be able to create a multitude of tasks in which students could show their understanding. I tried my best to not always focus on worksheets and writing assignments, however, for a lot of math that was one of the ways my mentor teacher and I kept track of how students would do with the assignment.
Goal: My goal is to continue to create an engaging lesson keeping accommodations in mind while keeping aspects of my lesson similar to what the students are used to while bringing in my flair. Knowing that students are familiar with writing summaries, I want to be able to take them one step further to enhance learning (TQS 3a). For tutoring, as I am tutoring a different student I want to be able to create short and long-term goals with them to see where they want to be by the end (TQS 3a).
Reflection: With my three connected lessons, one of my main goals was to be as accommodating as I possibly could, and I believe that I was able to accomplish this. Students had many choices throughout the lessons and they were able to choose methods that benefited them most. For tutoring, this semester was a bit of a challenge with my student being absent quite often, however, we were able to make some progress and she was able to complete some of the goals she set for herself.
Goal: My goal is to create an engaging lesson plan that can accommodate as many students as possible. Using various techniques, such as videos and physical demonstrations, I hope to keep students actively engaged and interested in the material (TQS 3a). For tutoring, I will create short and long-term goals with my students for optimal learning (TQS 3a).
Strategies: I will achieve this by allowing students to participate through the use of a variety of tools, getting kids who are at ease reading aloud and with me, and using techniques before, during, and after reading. One example could be students putting sticky notes on and arranging them on a piece of chart paper. For tutoring, I will discuss with the student and together we will come up with goals that we both agree on will help them in successful learning.
Reflection: I attached my lesson plan which includes the differentiation section that shows the different ways I tried to make the lesson interesting. I also included the students who have accommodations and catered to their needs.
Goal: My goal is while planning for a lesson use many resources, including their iPads, the projector, or 3D objects they can hold, and any other resources I need for the lessons.
Strategies: I will meet this goal by creating slides for them to be able to complete on seesaw, create a slide deck with my lesson, or find/make 3D objects such as blocks from the library. This will help with visualization of the lesson as well as give me an opportunity to assess their understanding.
Goal: My goal is to plan out a lesson that uses a wide variety of resources, and that can create a lot of insightful questions.
Strategies: I will meet this goal by observing my MT in how they plan for their lessons and try to implement some of their ways.
