Definition: Assessment is to determine student understanding through a variety of evaluations. Different tests include traditional standardized testing, essays, worksheets, and presentations. Using a wide variety allows the teacher to see where each student stands and how to proceed with the content.
Goal: I hope to continue studying, developing, and using many forms of interesting assessments during my practicum. I want the assessments to be more than a test on a paper, while keeping in mind the grade level and needs of students I hope to create valuable assessments for both teachers and students (TQS 3a, 3c).
Goal: This practicum, I want to be able to continue learning, creating, and using different forms of assessment, including Ingenious forms of assessment. This will allow for enhanced student comprehension of learning objectives and expectations for success in order to encourage self-monitoring as well as give students targeted, timely, and helpful feedback to help them keep an eye on their own learning (TQS 3a, 3c).
Strategies: I want to be able to use a variety of assessment tools which will help my mentor teacher, the students, and myself to stay on track with the student's learning.
Reflection: This is a competency I want to improve on. For grade ones, my assessments were formative and the summative assessments I created were tests and worksheets. Which is not a bad assessment type, I just wished I had done it differently. I wanted to try other assessments such as poster making or an assignment similar, however, due to time constraints, I was unable to complete this task.
Goal: My goal is to use both formative and summative assessments to assess how the students are understanding the topic whilst providing feedback to aid them (TQS 3c). During tutoring, I want to create a system where my student knows where they are and what the next steps in their learning will be (TQS 3a, 3c).
Reflection: I was able to create both formative and summative assessments for my three connected lessons. They were both effective and allowed for good feedback for both my students and me. For tutoring, I would always show my students what they should expect for the next week and sometimes give them choices on what lesson they wanted to learn next.
Goal: My goal is to create multiple forms of assessment rather than relying on quizzes and worksheets (TQS 3c). While tutoring, having a system where the student can also track progress and assessments is another goal as well (TQS 3a, 3c).
Strategies: During tutoring, I want to have a calendar or keep track of the progress the student is making and how much they are achieving their goals. I want a system that both the student and I can access and keep track of progress together.
Reflection: The pictures are ones that my student had written during tutoring. Both her writing style and confidence have improved and I am happy I was able to be part of that journey. These were my forms of assessment as I was able to track her progress with the little sentences that she would write becoming confident with tougher words.
Goal: My goal is to use an assessment that students are comfortable with but still let me see how they understood the topic. Having the students comfortable will create less confusion and less time wasted.
Strategies: I will complete this goal by observing both my mentor teacher as well as the fourth-year teacher candidate in my class to see what assessment they use and see which one the students are most comfortable with.
Goal: My goal is to analyze how students learn and use the best method to evaluate students.
Strategies: I will meet this goal by observing the different methods of evaluations used by my MT and see which one students enjoy the most.
