Definition: Facilitating learning uses different learning styles to properly teach the lesson to ensure students learn the topic effectively. When teaching because not all students learn the same, having different methods of teaching can help like having an activity such as “walk around the room and find”, presentation/slides, group work, collaborative worksheets, individual worksheets, exit/entrance slips, and reflections. Facilitating learning is made to make sure students understand the material and allow for any questions and clear up any misunderstandings.
Goal: My goal is continue to use a range of techniques, to provide students with rich learning experiences during Practicum II. Students will be able to analyze, and evaluate information; communicate and collaborate with others; think critically; and acquire, apply their knowledge in fun and interesting ways(TQS 2f, 3a, 3b).
Goal: During my practicum, I want to create rich learning experiences for students using a variety of methods that allow students' ability to acquire, apply, and create new knowledge; to communicate and collaborate with others, to think critically; and to access, analyze, and evaluate information (TQS 2f, 3a, 3b).
Strategies: With feedback from students and my mentor teacher, I hope to create a space for students to learn to the best of their abilities.
Reflection: One of my favourite activities to teach and my students favourite to learn, was our math game competition Sum It Up! Students would compete against each other to be the fastest table group to get the correct answer. Although under pressure, students love to see if they could get the correct answer before others could. It was always fun to watch them work together to figure out the answers! Through this game students were applying their knowledge as well as collaborating in a fun way.
Goal: During tutoring, I will make my lessons fit the needs of my student while giving constant feedback (TQS 3a, 3b). For my three connected lessons, I will incorporate various technological resources to allow for better learning (TQS 2f).
Reflection: Throughout my lessons, I gave students constant feedback on anything they would ask and if there was anything they were unsure of. Again students used a multitude of resources with each lesson and this helped them flourish with the final activity.
Goal: My goal is to use different strategies and personal examples during the tutoring sessions to better support the students and allow them to fully grasp the content (TQS 3a, 3b).
Strategies: By using a variety of methods including digital and paper assignments, I will be able to get a sense of where the student is and be able to broaden the methods they need to enhance their learning.
Reflection: During tutoring, I used a multitude of resources such as whiteboards, online slides for decoded readings, cards and UFLI blending board for the blending drill, and the word mat for word building, which kept my students engaged. My tutoring log has notes that show the different resources I used.
Goal: My goal is to teach a lesson where I can see student growth by using many methods of assessment - mostly observing to get a feel for where are at.
Strategies: I will meet this goal by having a checking in before I start teaching the content and seeing where they are at then having them complete an assignment in seesaw to see how they have grown from the initial check in.
Goal: My goal is to conduct a lesson that can let all the students be able to learn the topic to the best of their ability.
Strategies: I will meet this goal by observing different ways my MT and see what different methods they use to ensure the students fully understand the topic. I will also try to obverse to see which activity students enjoy the best when learning and try to implement that into the lesson when applicable.
