Sentenced is a 2D visual novel built in Unity. It follows the story of a detective trying to rekindle his connections with his brother after his father mysteriously goes missing. I joined this project during my first semester at USC as a volunteer for an MFA Thesis.
One of the biggest parts of the game that I worked on involved the inspection scene, where the player would be able to interact with an area to find clues and learn more about the story. Given the narrative focus of the game, most of this work revolved more around UX effects, like the cursor changing colors when hovering over an interactable object, scrolling in different directions to explore more of the scene, and having the camera zoom in on objects being inspected. I also helped with setting up the game's UI, including the Title Screen, Pause Menu, and Settings.
Through this project, I was able to explore my interests in UI and UX and ensuring players had the best experience playing the game. I had never really thought too much the player experience before hand, but working on a game that didn't have any complicated mechanics made it all the more important to minimize any burdens that players could potentially run into.
