Ape Ship is a survival game where the player must complete minigames to keep their spaceship afloat, all while dealing with a sabotaging Monkey and a bloodthirsty Gorilla.
I worked on Ape Ship in a group of 12 people as a part of my senior capstone project at the University of California, Santa Cruz. My primary job was as a gameplay and networking programmer, where I handled most of the multiplayer gameplay interactions as well AI behaviors for the two enemies - the monkey and the Gorilla. The monkey AI would find various nodes on the ship to hack, but would prioritize running away from the player over damaging the ship. The Gorilla AI would roam around the ship, charging and attacking at any player in its sight. I also worked a lot on the item pick-up/throwing system, allowing players to be able to pick up, throw, and drop items to be able to repair the ship with.

As a fun side-note, I worked as a concept artist in the early stages of development, drafting sketches of the monkey and gorilla enemies. I've attached my sketches below, so you can see the progression of the designs (primarily the monkey).
