CAGED

CAGED is a top-down 3D survival fighting game where the player is stuck in a cage, fighting off endless waves of enemies. Caged features 3 main attacks that the player can use (normal punching, whirlwind attack, and a self-buff blood rush), 3 different kinds of enemies to fight (worms, tanks, and the mini-bosses), and a pretty dope soundtrack. The goal of the game is to survive and earn as many points as possible.

I made CAGED almost entirely from scratch (there are some SFX that I took from soundbible.com and edited) using Unity. I wanted to make a game that was short and simple, but had replay value.

One of my proudest accomplishments from this project is the 8-bit soundtrack that I composed for the game. For the title music, I wanted to create a simple yet deep track. I used  . The main background music itself is much more upbeat and aggressive to match the gameplay. The tune itself is relatively short and ends up looping throughout the entire game, but I don't think that's a bad thing given how short the gameplay actually is.

If you want to try the game out, you can download it for free from the itch.io page!

Some fun facts/tips:

  • The player can actually throw two kinds of punches. If you left click (or press ","), the player throws a one-two punch starting with their LEFT arm. Using right click (or ".") will throw a one-two punch starting with the RIGHT arm.

  • The boss might do a lot of damage if it falls on top of you, but you won't take damage from touching him otherwise (the laser beams still hurt, though)

  • Worms and Tanks will die if they touch the boss (or its attacks), so sometimes it's OK to keep the boss alive, as it can get rid of a surprising number of enemies by itself.

  • Blood Rush (SHIFT) is a self-buff that increases the player's damage, punch speed, and movement speed. Use it with Whirlwind (SPACE) to deal crazy amounts of damage.
