Albemarle County and Charlottesville City Public and Private School Teachers are invited to participate in our in-school embryology program. Registration for 2025 is now open.
*Please note* Due to Avian Flu, fertilized eggs are more difficult and expensive to source. Incubator, eggs, and equipment are first come, first served. We ask that you please work with the teachers in your school to share resources so that we can expand this program to as many students and schools as possible. Consider common spaces such as the library where the entire school has access.
Recommended grades: K-12
Special Request:
Significant amount of table space for incubator with no drafts and not by a window
3'x3' Floor/Table Space for Brooder
Do not need to find a home for chicks, but can choose a home if desired
Requirements:
Must pick up supplies/eggs from Albemarle/Charlottesville Extension Office
4-6 week commitment from start to finish
An understanding that environmental effects play a major role in hatchability
Completion of the Group Enrollment Form (classroom demographics) or PowerSchool information
March 28: Registrations Due. Please note that we have a limited number of incubators, and will be first come, first served. Help us purchase new incubators by donating here.
April 10 or 11: Incubator and Egg pick up at the Albemarle Extension Office 9:00AM - 5:30PM
Be sure to plug in your incubator and let it warm to temperature before placing your eggs inside. this should be done in the same day as pickup
April 30-May-3 : Potential hatch dates!
May 5-9: Return chicks and incubators to the Albemarle Extension Office or deliver chicks to their new home
