4-H is the nation's largest youth development organization - empowering nearly six million young people across the U.S. with the skills to lead for a lifetime. The youth development education program of Virginia Cooperative Extension for ages 5-19, 4-H is rich with learning experiences in which young people partner with caring adults and volunteers in a fellowship unlike any other program available to youth today. Though our roots began in agriculture, we have grown into so much more as we meet the evolving needs of youth and build a future workforce that will satisfy the demands of an ever changing economy.
Through 4-H, young people are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities that emphasize 4-H's "learning by doing" philosophy of youth development. We bring research-based information from our land grant universities – Virginia Tech and Virginia State University – to the youth in our community. The mission of 4-H is to develop leadership, citizenship, and life skills.
Albemarle/Charlottesville 4-H currently has 7 unique 4-H Clubs with over 250 club members. Annually, our programing serves over 3,000 youth.
