Designer: Educators design authentic, learner-driven activities and environments that recognize and accommodate learner variability.
For this assignment, I had the opportunity to work with a group to design a breakout room. Each member designed their own breakout pizzle that was an authentic learning experience. Our breakout room was created to follow the ISTE standard 2.5. This type of learning experience was created to foster a more personalized learning experience for students. This type of assessment tests the student's knowledge in a variety of ways and gives room to accommodate different learning needs and styles. The breakout room puzzle I created was made to test students' knowledge of different countries. The students would have to remember the different foods that are famous in different places. For my breakout room, I focused on Italian food.
I also was able to test my personal knowledge boundaries by creating a google classroom and inviting students into it.
Being a designer goes far outside the boundaries that most would normally hold it to. A designer is someone who uses technology and other resources to create authentic and learner-driven activities. Throughout my school years, I was taught by my mum, Sonja Kappes. During those years, she used many different forms of teaching and learning for us. Many times we would conduct learning assignments that let us explore different resources. We were able to create and explore with activities that let us learn outside of the traditional way of learning. She found and had us use many different online learning platforms, and let us choose the ones that helped us learn best.
