Learner: Educators continually improve their practice by learning from and with others and exploring proven and promising practices that leverage technology to improve student learning.
Setting professional learning goals is very important for educators. We should also be continuously exploring and applying new strategies and approaches to the way we use technology. This assignment connects to the ISTE standard 2.1a, by creating the learning goals that I want to have as a teacher.
Participating in global networks is another way that teachers can continue in being learners. For this assignment, I researched different teacher organizations that I would want to join as an educator. This assignment aligns with ISTE standard 2.1b, by pursuing my professional interests in education and staying current, and participating in learning networks.
Through a recording platform called Flipgrid, I was able to discuss my thoughts and research findings on the effectiveness of technology. Through this assignment, I was able to form my own opinion on technology, and how it can be used in the classroom.
Being a learner is not just for students, but for teachers as well. Some of the best teachers I have known are the ones who are constantly educating themselves on new things. Mrs. Anna Hamrick was one of those teachers. While in her class, she would tell us new things she learned about education each week. She would teach us about the newest learning platforms that she had experimented with. Throughout her class, she would encourage us to get involved in educational networks and to always ask questions to find the answers we needed. Mrs. Hamrick displayed to our class how to be a learner as a teacher, and how to encourage our students to be learners as well.
