Collaborator: Educators design authentic, learner-driven activities and environments that recognize and accommodate learner variability.
Demonstrating cultural competency is very important for teachers. For this assignment, I demonstrated my competency by responding as a teacher to various emails from different people. This assignment aligns with the ISTE standard 2.4d by demonstrating competency while communicating with parents, students, and colleagues.
The development of collaboration skills is crucial for all students. Collaborating with others helps to build social skills, communication, and class discussions. For this assignment, I worked with my group to create an authentic learning experience for students. This experience aligned with the ISTE standard 2.4a-c by having students use real data to solve real-world problems.
One of the things I most enjoyed about En 103 was the collaboration projects that Ms. Walters had us do. Working together with others was something that Ms. Walters believed was very important. She would not only have us work on projects together but would always tell us to "discuss this question with your neighbor." She would also have the class look at, and fix emails and letters that did not demonstrate cultural competency. Ms. Walters helped me see that student collaboration can be one of the greatest assets to student understanding.
