Thank You notes

Tips for Thank You Notes

Write and send them a day or two following the interview – you want to be prompt with sending the thank you soon after the actual interview, but not overly eager. Thus, sending the thank you the day or two following the interview is ideal.

Be clear, concise, and professional: Think of the thank you note as the final step in the interview process. You want to remain professional, conscientious, and personable.

Recall: Along with your thanks, recall one or two bits of information discussed in the interview. This will remind the interviewer of who you are what your qualifications are.

Revise for grammar, punctuation, and spelling: If the thank you letter is sent via email, always spellcheck and re-read several times for errors. Similarly, with hard copies of thank you letters, review for grammar issues, it's a good idea to have a friend or spouse also review the letter prior to sending it. See our grammar page for more.

Get the names right: Always ask for a business card before leaving the interview. Most companies and HR managers have business cards that contain the necessary contact information. This will expedite the thank you letter process.
