Spanish Ab initio General syllabus

General Objectives

The general objectives of this 2 year course is for participants to communicate with competence in common everyday contexts.

At the end of the 2 year course, students will be able to:

1. communicate clearly and effectively in limited contexts.

2. comprehend and use spoken and written language in limited contexts.

3. comprehend and use specific common vocabulary and essential grammar.

4. communicate appropriately according to the audience.

5. show sensitivity to characteristics of the culture related to the Spanish language.

Curriculum

The Spanish abinitio curriculum is divided into 3 main themes:

1. The individual and society

2. Leisure and work

3. Urban and rural environment

Within these 3 themes, there are 20 topics to choose from:

The individual and society:

1. Personal details (appearance and character)

2. Daily routines

3. Relationships (family and friends)

4. Education

5. Food and drink

6. Shopping (clothing and  accessories )

7. Physical health

Leisure and work:

1. Sports

2. Entertainment

3. Holidays

4. Transport

5. Employment

6. Technology

Urban and rural environment:

1. Neighborhood

2. Town and services

3. Weather

4. Environmental concerns

5. Global issues

6. Physical geography

Units, topics, and specific objectives 

Unit # 1 The individual

topic # 1:  Self and others

Objectives   students will be able to:

1. greet each other

2. talk about personal information (name, nationality, age, birthday, languages they speak, etc.)

3. talk about physical and character traits.

4. talk about family relationships and friends.

5. describe their daily routine.

Topic # 2:   The home and neighborhood

Objectives   students will be able to:

1. talk about and describe their homes.

2. talk about life at home and household tasks.

3. talk about invitations and celebrations.

4. talk about their neighborhood (private and public services)

Unit # 2     Education

topic # 1:  School 

Objectives   students will be able to:

1. talk about the different types of schools.

2. talk about their subjects, schedules, and dates.

3. describe the facilities in their schools.

4. talk about after school activities and clubs.

Unit # 3     Health and well being 

topic # 1:  Food and drink

Objectives   students will be able to:

1. talk about different foods, drinks

2. talk about what you eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner

3. talk about recipes

4. talk about eating out

topic # 2:  Healthy lifestyle

Objectives   students will be able to:

1. talk about physical health.

2. talk about social health.

Objectives   students will be able to:

1. talk about shopping for clothes and accessories.

2. talk about shopping for food.

3. talk about shopping in general.

1. Talk about sports and hobbies

2. talk about going to the movies and theater

3. talk about going to the amusement park
