Jonas Hedger was an ordinary construction worker in Orvell City, known for his grit and hard work. When Dominion Industries announced a mysterious “promotion program” for select employees, Jonas saw it as a chance to finally rise out of the grind and provide for his family. But instead of a promotion, he was led into a sterile underground lab. There, Dominion scientists sealed him in a cylinder chamber, raining down microscopic silicon carbide particles while blasting the chamber with concentrated radiation.

The experiment was not meant to give Jonas power—it was meant to break him. The process fused his very skin and muscles with silicon carbide, one of the hardest synthetic materials known to science. His flesh mutated into a toughened, armor-like form, and his strength increased beyond human limits. Yet the mutation didn’t completely strip away his humanity: Jonas could still eat, sleep, breathe, and live as a man.

Terrified at what had been done to him, Jonas smashed his way out of the lab, his newly forged body shrugging off Dominion’s guards and weapons. From that day forward, he was no longer just Jonas Hedger—he was Bulwark, the living barrier. Driven by a fierce sense of justice and betrayal, he now uses his silicon carbide body to stand between Dominion’s forces and the people of Orvell City, enduring every hit so that others don’t have to.
