Ms. Afrika Abney has been working as a consultant since her time as a student, providing services.
As a trained dancer, Ms.Abney has conducted workshops and performances in dance across the D. C. region, working with organizations such as African Heritage Dancers and Drummers and Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers. She has also taught dance to students of all ages, focusing on West African dance styles and historical context to promote cultural awareness. Ms. Abney has extensive experience as a dance consultant, collaborating with various organizations to deliver workshops, performances, and instruction in the field of dance. Her performances at events like Africare Family Festival and African Liberation Day have showcased her talent and dedication to the art of dance, while also promoting cultural understanding and appreciation.
Ms. Abney's work in the field of dance aims to promote cultural awareness, physical fitness, and teamwork through West African dance styles, inspiring students and audiences to appreciate the richness and diversity of African dance traditions.
She has served as a substitute instructor at Joy of Motion Dance Center and Dance Institute of Washington, as well as taught West African dance at summer camps and other non-profit organizations. Ms. Abney has performed with various groups and ensembles, showcasing her passion for dance and commitment to promoting cultural heritage through her work.
