January 1992, Ms. Afrika Abney was invited to appear at the school assemble which took place at Lincoln Junior High School in Washington, DC. She was 14 when this photo was taken. Ms. Abney has thrown away the clothes depicted in this photo many years ago. She was invited by principal Maria Tukeva.
From the 1980s - 2016, Ms. Afrika Abney provided professional dance services at various venues, utilizing her formal training in West African dance and ballet. She offered workshops, performances, and instruction, drawing on her expertise developed through training with renowned dance companies and individuals in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. Ms. Abney also provided dance consulting services for small businesses, dance studios, and nonprofits, including African Heritage Dancers and Drummers, Soul in Motion Players, Inc, and Joy of Motion Dance Center. Her impressive list of performance venues includes Lincoln Theatre, Howard University Blackburn Center, and Malcolm X Park, among many others. Additionally, she was invited by Principal Maria Tukeva to participate in a school assembly at Lincoln Middle School in January 1992.
Since 2020, she has not provided any dance consulting services for the Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers.
