緣起

美學在英美分析哲學界的發展近年來頗為蓬勃，在美國美學協會（American Society for Aesthetics）以及英國美學協會（British Society of Aesthetics）的推動 下，學術活動頻繁，研究動能豐沛。不但與美國哲學協會（American Philosophical Association）的互動增多，美學研究文章發表在一般哲學期刊的比 例也有升高的趨勢。這股「美學熱」已逐漸蔓延到亞洲，不管是中國、日本或 韓國，在學界都已經出現相關的研究、譯介或評述。

台灣對於分析美學之研究與交流的相對不足，近年來也逐漸有了轉變。牛津大 學的分析美學家 James Grant 於 2016 年受邀前往中正大學進行兩場公開演講， 正式開啟了台灣學界與當代英美分析美學界的交流之門。

這次邀請的 Livingston 教授不但資深，著作也頗豐，他曾是香港嶺南大學的系主任，現已成為該系的榮譽教授。對學術懷有高度熱情的他，目前繼續於瑞典的 烏普薩拉大學（Uppsala University）擔任客座教授，持續進行學術研究。他與 Gregory Currie、Jerrold Levinson、Stephen Davies、Noël Carroll 這些重要的分析美學家屬於同一世代，在分析美學的領域中佔據重要位置，其專書曾於下列知 名學術出版社出版：Oxford University Press、Clarendon Press、The Johns Hopkins University Press、Cambridge University Press、Cornell University Press。

本次活動由文化大學哲學系的美學研究中心主辦，中正大學協辦，衷心企盼能 藉由這次的邀請繼續拓展台灣哲學界與當代美學的交流，歡迎對美學感興趣的 師生及同好一同參與。 講座資訊 共有三場講座，兩場在文化大學（台北），一場在中正大學（嘉義）。不須報名，開放所有人參加。

講題 | On testimony and acquaintance in aesthetics

摘要｜

Various philosophers who allow that in many domains testimony is an indispensable source of rational belief or knowledge maintain that with regard to important, properly aesthetic topics, reliance on testimony cannot take the place of first-hand experience. In this vein, Richard Wollheim influentially defended what he called ‘the acquaintance principle’ in aesthetics. In this talk I will argue that the most of the acquaintance principles in the literature, including a sophisticated version set forth by Frank Sibley, are unsound and in need of revision. Although some of the reasons that motivate acquaintance principles can be retained, a more comprehensive approach to the epistemology of aesthetic response is needed, especially if we are interested in a viable approach to aesthetic education.

講題｜On a paradox of cinematic narration

摘要｜

The paradox is a matter of three inconsistent propositions each of which is apparently true: (1) Some cinematic works are narrations. (2) A work is a narration only if it has one or more narrators. (3) Some of the cinematic works that are narrations have no narrator. I first explore the reasons why people tend to think each of these statements is correct, then I turn to revisions that could dissolve the paradox. The term ‘narrator’ is used in divergent ways, so some explication is required. In some works, a distinction between the author and a fictional narrator is required. Some people think that distinction applies to all cinematic narrations, and I illustrate their reasoning with reference to an example. I also give reasons for thinking that some works of cinematic fiction have no narrator distinct from the work’s author(s). I propose a way to revise both (2) and (3) to resolve the paradox.

講題："Seeing Invisible Gods"

看見不可見，實際上否證了一般認為柏拉圖《理想國》第十卷模仿/再現說只將繪畫視為單純的「鏡像仿照」(mirroring)的解釋方式。本次的演講者將藉由西元前6-5世紀希臘的圖像學(iconography)，進入對荷馬史詩藝術再現的討論，迴照到柏拉圖的美學。

這次的聚會中，本系成員姚富全老師分享了他自己撰寫中的文章，試圖從發生「美」的感覺和大腦中發現的共振情況，為難以界定的「美感」提供科學性的解釋。文中重要的引用是 Ishizu & Zeki 利用「功能性磁振造影技術」(functional magnetic “resonance” imaging, fMRI) 的機器，應用共振原理來作實驗測量的研究成果。姚老師以此主張：要能解釋物件與知覺者本身如何產生美(感)經驗(即在大腦mOFC區域產生活動)，而不能僅就知覺者的心靈感受本身作解釋。
