Animation

Overview

We will be creating the animation in 4 phases:

  1. Blocking and Key-posing

  2. Character Animation (this phase)

  3. Animation Refinement

(1) Character Motions

Instructions

  • You must use the techniques shown in the demo

  • Make sure to convert all assets to Graphic Symbols as your first step.

Upload Your File

  • Upload it to your Animation Google Drive folder and name the file: YourName-CharacterMotion.fla

Watch Bill's Demos

  • Open the videos in YouTube to see a table of contents. You can use that as a checklist for completing the assignment.

Here is a video export of the example file

(1) Create The Loops

  • You can skip this step if you do not have any loops planned for your animation

  • Loops are used for for things like walking, wig flapping, vehicles bouncing along a rough road, etc. They are not to be used to create repetitious body motions like those used in games. Character animation should always consist of pose to pose gestures founded in acting.

(2) Create the Walk Cycles

  • You can skip this step if you do not have walk cycles planned for your animation

(3) Complete the Character and Camera Animation

  • Remember to work pose-to-pose using keyframe columns. Each pose should be driven by character acting. Do not use 'random' poses. Start with key poses, then add in-between poses using tweening or creating additional pose columns.

  • Do not create repetitious body motions like those used in games. Character animation should always consist of pose to pose gestures founded in acting.

(4) Create the Lip Sync Segments

  • You can skip this step if you do not have any lip syncing planned for your animation

(5) Upload your file to your Animation folder and name the file:

  • FirstnameLastname-CharacterAnimation.fla

Additional Technique Demos

Just watch these as desired, don't do them. Use them as reference for methods that you may choose to use in your animations
