Much like lab 1, our Advanced GIS class had the opportunity once more to use unreferenced aerial imagery, but in this case the images were collected by Dr. Joseph Wheaton and his colleagues and the class. In this data collection process, we observed how blimps are very useful tools in obtaining images quickly, but also how weather conditions can be detrimental to the collection too. Once the data was collected we were given HRO2006 data of the same area and asked to georeference the Utah State University Quad images to the referenced HRO data. This proved a challenging task because the aerial imagery was taken at an angle and did not cover the full extent of the quad. Portions of the image are slightly warped, nevertheless it was still possible to georeference the image and perform a successful comparison. The grid lines are measured in meters and the coordinate system is NAD 1983 UTM Zone 12.
