The Ada County Sheriff's Office-led Metropolitan Special Weapons and Tactics teams were the premier specialised response teams of Ada County in their primes, until the dissolution of the division—the division has been dormant for three months, with only prior-qualified Deputies able to carry out the duties of Metro SWAT.
The Ada County Metropolitan Special Weapons and Tactics division was created in the late 20th Century as a response to high rates of violent crime, following suit to Los Angeles Police Metro SWAT.
The team, being Metropolitan, is a combined team, consisting of law enforcement officers from the Ada County Sheriff's Office, as well as the surrounding departments, including that of Meridian and Garden City.
The Ada County Metro SWAT teams carry out specialised response, including that to armed robberies, active shooters, and hostage situations; high-risk warrant services, and also provide specialised assistance to other Deputies in high-risk situations.
