During Social Studies throughout the year, I had the opportunity to teach Oakland Schools Curriculum. They had many slideshows and class discussions we were able to participate in. In addition to teaching the curriculum, we were able to add fun ideas and projects throughout to make it more enjoyable for our students.
This is an example of how we took notes during social studies. The students were able to read parts of the textbook and then write about what happened at each event. Then, they were able to be creative and add a picture to help them remember the event.
As we learned, we had a running list of new key terms that we added to. If there were new words for the students we would discuss what is meant and came up with a definition together.
Sample of how notes were taken. They would recreate this table in their journal. After, I would rewrite their ideas on the smart board.
This is the slideshow for the colonies project that I discussed above. It has all the links that were needed for the project embedded.
This is one of my lessons from unit 2 in social studies. I looked at the curriculum and then embedded all the talking points I wanted to make for each slide in the speaker notes. Once we finished having class discussions, they were able to write down the answer to the prompt in their detective journals.
