Throughout my student teaching I had the opportunity to learn how to teach Bridges Mathematics. This curriculum has many different steps such as number corner, number calendar, problem strings, and workbook pages. I am thrilled that I was able to experience a dense math curriculum because it will help me understand varied math curriculums in my future teachings.
This is the pre-assessment I gave our students at the beginning of the unit. I explained that this was just a practice assignment and I wanted to see what topics the students had prior knowledge on.
This is an example of a sample quiz that was given during the unit. I did not put a lot of pressure on checkpoints because it is for me to see where my students were at. If there was a common topic that was misunderstood, then I retaught lessons on those topics.
This is a fun activity that my students were able to do on St. Patrick's Day. It was a break we were able to take from curriculum, but the students were still able to learn from the different subject area.
This is an example of a homework assignment that I would give our students after a lesson. Usually, we would do a problem string and sample problems from our workbook for the lesson. Then, this would be assigned at the end of the math lesson. We would review the expectations of the assignment and then have five minutes of work time. Therefore, my students could ask questions before they would take the rest of the worksheet home for the night.
This is an example of the final assessment I gave the students. I gave them a weeks notice so they would be able to have time to prepare. Once again, if there was a topic that was missed on the test, I reviewed it with the students.
These are the different aspects of teaching math in the classroom. The number calendar is used to expand on different topics that help students review previous topics. For April, we were reviewing volume. Next, there is the vocabulary wall. We referred to different words on the wall depending on what unit we were on. Lastly, we used the number corner. For the corner we worked through different skills. In April, we had to add 3/4 for each section per day. The students would point out patterns and share observations they had while teaching it.
This is an example of slides that would go along with our curriculum. I would use these daily and write on the board while our students took notes.
Sample review powerpoint. The students loved this because they loved the game Among Us.
