Juvenile Boys - Connacht B Football Champions 🏆
A.C.C produced a determined and composed display to eventually claim the Connacht Juvenile B title after an epic encounter with St. Muredach’s that required extra time to separate the sides.
A strong wind played a huge factor throughout the game and gave A.C.C a significant advantage during the opening half. The Boyle school made excellent use of the conditions early on and settled quickly through two fine scores from Oisín Carty inside the opening minutes. Callum Gavican added a free before A.C.C struck for the game’s opening goal when Ronan Moore found the net following an excellent attacking move.
The momentum continued firmly in A.C.C’s favour when Oisín Carty added a second goal soon after, helping his side build a commanding lead. Further scores from Gavican, Carty, Gavican again and Fintan McKeon ensured A.C.C continued to make the most of the wind advantage. Although St. Muredach’s finished the half with a goal, A.C.C deservedly led 2-9 to 1-2 at the interval.
With the aid of the wind in the second half, St. Muredach’s mounted a serious comeback and gradually reduced the deficit through a series of well-taken scores and goals. However, every time momentum threatened to swing completely, A.C.C responded impressively. Rory O’Shaughnessy, Fintan McKeon, Oisín Carty and Callum Gavican all contributed crucial scores during a tense second period.
St. Muredach’s continued to battle right to the final whistle and managed to level the game at 2-14 to 3-11, forcing the Connacht Final to extra time after a dramatic finish to normal time.
The contest continued at a frantic pace in extra time despite tiring conditions. St. Muredach’s again started strongly, but A.C.C responded impressively when Ronan Moore grabbed another vital goal, while Oisín Carty and Callum Gavican added important scores to keep A.C.C in front.
Oisín Carty finished as A.C.C’s top scorer with an impressive tally of 1-8, while Ronan Moore struck two crucial goals — an exceptional return for the only first year student on the panel. Callum Gavican contributed an impressive five points, while Fintan McKeon and Rory O’Shaughnessy also added valuable scores.
This Connacht Final success is a fitting reward for the effort, teamwork and commitment shown by the entire A.C.C panel throughout the campaign. It also makes the achievement even more special as this was A.C.C’s first ever year competing at Connacht B level football since the opening of the school in September 2002, making it all the sweeter to get across the line and claim the title at the first attempt.
Well done boys

Juvenile Boys- Roscommon A League Final:
Abbey Community College Boyle (A.C.C) were defeated by Roscommon C.B.S (C.B.S) in the Roscommon A Final after a hard-fought contest that stayed in the balance until the closing stages.
A.C.C started brightly and led at half time, but C.B.S gradually took control around the middle third, winning breaking ball and fielding some outstanding possession throughout the game. Despite this, A.C.C remained right in contention deep into the second half.
Once C.B.S eventually edged ahead, they pushed on strongly in the closing stages to secure the title. Despite the high scoreline, both goalkeepers produced outstanding displays, with A.C.C denying several point-blank chances while the C.B.S goalkeeper also pulled off a number of excellent saves.
Despite the disappointment of the result, A.C.C will use the experience and lessons from the game as motivation as preparations now turn to the Connacht B Juvenile Football Final next Thursday in Tubbercurry at 12:30

The second half saw a strong push from HRC, but ACC responded with a dominant spell of scoring, showing great control and game management to pull clear and secure a deserved five-point victory on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-10.

In a great all-round team performance, Domantas, Conor Casey in D, Callum “Skipper” Gavican and Tom Wynne were particularly eye-catching for some excellent work.

Victorious Rugby Ladies!!!!
Abbey Community College v Cliften CS
In the conclusion of the Connacht girls U18 D2 competition the girls from Abbey Community College emerged victorious.
A result made more satisfying by the facts that earlier in the season Cliften had beaten them also, that as a project in the school the girls team is only about two years old, and… most thrillingly with 2 mins to go Abbey was trailing by 28-31
Castlebar RFC hosted the game on a bright dry day with no winds. Both teams tested each other early in defence and attack. The tackle count from captain Nikita Cullen, Katie Sharkey and Julianne Moore was massive, no yard of ground was won easily. The first exchange of scores saw Grainne Sweeney go over to open the Abbey account. Cliften were well drilled and had some crafty backline moves as well as no shortage of bravery through their forwards. The Abbey girls thrived on broken play and demonstrated fantastic handeling skills and invention. Every challenge was met with a counter score and the sheer determination of Cliften after the break was noteworthy and it felt like that determination might win them the day. 28-31… two and a half mins left on the clock Cliften in position swept a very clean ball out of the back of a scrum aiming to get it to their highly influential right winger. Commeth the moment… Holly Fitzhenry snatched the ball on intercept and ran a blistering 70 meter to pull Abbey one point ahead, Julianne Moore added the two points to keep her 100% record intact. Still a kick off and a play or two to endure. Pressure makes dimonds, Cliften were not allowed exit their 22 in the end stages and the Abbey girls looking ruthlessly for one more try refused to kick the ball dead. One more try was the reward. Outstanding, the history girls took their place in the records. Our try scorers were Grainne Sweeney x 2 Adrianna Beržanska x 2 Ella Fitzpatrick Julianne Moore Holly Fitzhenry but in this diamond mine of drama the trys were just the Crown Jewels… this is a team and a squad result based on work rate and bravery. Many thanks to manager Tara Farrell,Mr Martin, Mr Harding and Mr Colohan and the staff of Abbey college for their unswerving support. Mr MacRory and Ms. Maher and the mighty 100 supporters they brought along.

U14 Girls GAA:
On Wednesday March 11th,, our u14 Ladies team played Manorhamilton in the provisional round of the Connacht shield semi-final.
The girls got off to a great start with the wind behind their backs. The first big moment came straight from the throw in as Manorhamilton won possession and shot on goal but a great save from goalkeeper Hannah Bonnici denied them of it.
ACC opened their scoring with a superb goal from Aoife Cryan and points from the forwards had them in front 1:3 to no score. Some prominent defending from the backline had ACC leading 2:10 to 2:1 at Half time
With the second half beginning and playing against the wind Manorhamilton started very well with great scores and no response.
Their momentum was cut short when Therese Coyle and Keela Gavigan scored 2 important goals.
An exceptional effort from Captain Maisy Hannon, Aoibheann Cregg and Faye Shivnen stopped Manorhamilton coming close to goal.
The game ended with ACC coming out on top with a scoreline of 6:14 to 4:5.
Well done Girls.

Connacht B Juvenile Boys – Group Stage :
Well done to the Juvenile Boys team who booked their place in the Connacht B Quarter-Finals today in Davonna Park, Ballinameen.
With two games played in what could only be described as harsh weather conditions, the boys showed real grit and determination to secure three out of a possible four points and finish the group stage undefeated.
Last Thursday saw us travel to St Attracta’s Community School, Tubbercurry. With the aid of a severe cross-field wind, the boys stormed into a four-point to nil lead at the break after withstanding intense pressure in the opening 15 minutes. The defensive display deserves huge credit, alongside some very intelligent attacking play that kept the scoreboard ticking.
The second half started brightly with Attracta’s registering an early point before A.C.C responded with 1-1 without reply. Attracta’s then began to build pressure, kicking five points in a row before being awarded a free kick from which they scored a fantastic goal to level the game with the last kick of the day.
Today saw the boys face St Nathy’s College. Once again the team withstood early pressure and went into half-time with a 1-4 to 1-1 lead. Much of the second half was played around the middle of the field in very difficult conditions, with both teams struggling to create any real attacking threat. The final score finished A.C.C 1-5 to St Nathy’s 1-3.
We now await results in Group 1 and Group 4 to determine our seeding and quarter-final opponents.
Well done to all involved and also a big thank you to Ballinameen GAA for hosting us today

U16 Boys Soccer:
Our U16 Boys bowed out of the Connacht Cup today, against a very strong St Gerald's Castlebar. The Abbey lads took the lead and went into the break 1.0 ahead.
They conceded twice to go behind but Oisin Carty equalised with 15 to go with an excellent free kick. Unfortunately, the Mayo school retook the lead with 10 left after a fortuitous ricochet. This was a great battle with the lads giving their all throughout.
Junior Camogie:
Our junior camogie team attended a blitz in Ballyhaunis today. The girls qualified for the A semi final after placing second in their group - defeating Roscommon CC and drawing with St. Joseph’s. Unfortunately, we were narrowly defeated by a strong Sancta Maria College side. This concludes our junior camogie campaign, well done to all our players on a competitive season.

Juvenile Boys – Connacht B Schools 2025/26 – Round 1:
Abbey Community College Boyle vs St. Muredach's College Ballina
A brilliant start to the Connacht B Schools campaign for our Juvenile Boys as Abbey Community College Boyle secured a well-earned victory over St. Muredach’s College.
Full Time
Abbey Community College Boyle 3-14 (23)
St. Muredach’s College 1-11 (14)
Match Summary
St. Muredach’s College made a sharp start and registered a number of early points from play. ACC responded with maturity and composure, settling into the game before striking for a crucial first-half goal that shifted momentum.
From that point, ACC’s high-quality defending became a major platform for success — with relentless pressure, strong tackling and excellent organisation limiting St. Muredach’s College’s goal chances and forcing them into difficult shooting positions. Combined with clinical finishing at the other end, this helped build a valuable lead before the break.
Half-Time: ACC 2-5 (11) – St. Muredach’s College 0-8 (8)
The second half saw ACC take further control. An early goal stretched the advantage and was followed by a steady stream of points from play, reflecting excellent movement and decision-making in attack.
St. Muredach’s College battled throughout and grabbed a late goal, but ACC responded immediately and managed the closing stages with confidence and composure.
Next up is an away fixture next Thursday against St Attracta's Community School.
Best of luck to the team and management .

U16 Girls Basketball:
Commiserations to our u16 girls who were unsuccessful in their bid to make the All Ireland B final while coming up against two very strong sides on Friday. First up was St Paul's Oughterard, who have just come down from A. The girls put in a fantastic performance in the first 2 quarters with only 5 between the sides at half time. Unfortunately the Galway side came out on top during the 3rd and 4th quarters and ran out comfortable winners 28 v 46.
This result meant the girls had just a short period to recover before they had to be back on court again v Dominican College, Fortwilliam. The disappointment of defeat in the first game proved hard to shake and the fresher team from Belfast ended up winning on a scoreline of 25 v 42. This result meant we were out and the final game was a winner takes all with St Paul's advancing to the All Ireland final winning 54 v 37.
Great credit must go to the girls who had a fantastic season showing brilliant resilience, determination and skill through out the year. With this being our schools first time ever to play in the B competition, to make it to the last 6 in the county is an unbelievable achievement. Well done to you all.

Boys Basketball:
Our First and Second Year teams kicked off their campaigns against Gortnor Abbey.
The First Years, many of whom were playing for the first time, put in a spirited performance. Though they ultimately came out on the losing side, the lads showed great fight throughout the game.
The return of the Second Years—whose last outing resulted in All-Ireland glory—did not disappoint. With one or two new additions and a few First Years stepping up, it was a commanding performance against a spirited Gortnor side. Callum ‘Skipper’ Gavican led from the front with a first-half haul that would win most games on its own.
Well done to all the players who contributed, particularly the new squad members, Alex and Aaron, for stepping up from the First Year ranks. Finally, a massive well done to Kajetan, who was particularly impressive.
We look forward to playing Carrick next week. Well done, lads!
