WHAT IS NARRATIVE RESEARCH?

Narrative research has been defined in several distinctive ways. Overcash (2003) likened it to "collecting and analyzing the accounts people tell to describe experiences and offer interpretation". Gundundsdottir (2001) took a more scientifice approach, stating it is "the study of how human beings experience the world, and narrative researchers collect these stories and write narratives of experience". The concept of narration is multifaceted, and Carless and Douglas (2017) took it a step further with their definition: "Narrative is both a research method and a way of theorizing psychological and social phenomena".
