God is love. This is part of His nature. The love of God is the glue that binds all parts of His character together. God is who He is towards us because He loves us. God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to rescue us. 

We see this in John 3:16...

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

God's love covers us, cares for us, and changes us.
