Dr Koo Chieh Shen acquired his dental degree at the National University of Singapore in 2011. He completed a 3-year orthodontic training programme at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College of London and was awarded the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Dr. Koo Chieh Shen is a consultant orthodontist at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the largest paediatric hospital in Singapore and is the current President of the Association of Orthodontists (Singapore). He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Duke NUS Medical School and a visiting Specialist at the National Dental Centre Singapore. He has research interests in Surgery First Orthognathic Approach, Temporary Anchorage Devices and Tooth Autotransplantation.

This lecture will explore the challenges and applications of orthodontic space closure in children with traumatized incisors. We will discuss the impact of trauma on dental development and the importance of timely orthodontic intervention. We will:
Assess the suitability of orthodontic space closure for trauma cases in children
Determine when to use orthodontic space closure versus space opening: understanding the proper indications for each approach
Manage space closure in conjunction with multidisciplinary dental treatments
