First you will need to take a portrait image of yourself against a blank wall that includes your shoulders and send to yourself.
Use wacom tablets to create a line drawing using the pencil tool. Remember to keep the lines solid so there are no gaps. You can try out doing facial features but this is not going to be used in your final portrait. You want your image to end up looking something like this.
Use clipping masks to insert your patterns and imagery below.
Create a subdued background using inspiration from Natalie Foss. Test out gradient tools. You can either download a pattern template on the internet or create your own, don't make it too busy. Dull it down using the opacity option.

Add a Cyan or cool blue photo filter to your sketch
Using magnetic lasso tool or magic wand you can cut out image and paste onto your background pattern.
Find a pattern that you like off google and paste this onto your page and create a cutout where the shirt is.
Select the hair area and on new layer: Edit>FIll>Colour. Choose something bold and using the paint brush tool add blush to the cheeks.
SCAFFOLDED TASK:
Save the following image and print out on an A4 sheet of paper.
Use magazines and cut outs to fill in the different areas.
Dull and subdued colour/ pattern in background
Pattern for the shirt
Bold colour for the hair
Facial features for the face.
