1975-1979

1975

In 1975, Buena sports were very big. During this year, the boys' water polo team beat their overall record of 1-5 from 3-10. The varsity team was lined up with John Nickel, Tom Kauffman, Jeff Parrish, Dennis Harris, Dave Burns, Chuck Leitzell, and Eric Steinhouse. Their coach talked about how great the team was and said “Everyone on my team is valuable in his own way” (Citation Needed).

The girls' VB team had a good season. They had to work on having consistent serving and returning the ball to the other side.

The girls' tennis had a very rough year. A couple of players suffered injuries which resulted in them not being able to play at their best potential. Santa Barbara and Ventura High School at this time were definitely Buena’s toughest opponents. The coach at the time, Ms. Kathy Wilson said that two girls should go to CIF and recommended they go as a double.

1976

In 1976, some crazy stuff happened. Vandals broke about 25 windows, wrote obscene signs on the walls, and cut two trees down. The Vice-Principal said, “I do not know whether it is our students or not, but it seems to be a concerted effort against Buena High School” (Citation Needed).

1977

In 1977, there was a fire that completely damaged both rooms 124 and 125. More than $103,000 in damage was done to the building. The school wanted the classrooms rebuilt by the end of the semester.

1978

During the Year 1978, the tardy policy was a lot more strict than it is now. Mr. Walt Zorovich the industrial arts teacher stated, ¨It is not fair to miss my class ever, but we (the teachers) must be somewhat flexible. Because of poor records of previous Buena students¨ (Citation Needed).
