In accordance with our recently developed Kit Strategy, in September we will be opening our new club shop offering a Vegan certified range of club branded kit with improved prices and increase colour choices. These items will be available on a made-to-order basis with a three week lead time.
Congratulations to nutritionist and club member Andrius Jaksevicius likes to compete and win - to demonstrate that a Vegan diet is no handicap to racing success.
Last weekend (4 August 2024) he took first place at "Biržų km 2024", 21km.
The previous Saturday (27 July) he won "Aplink Žaslių ežerą" (Around the Zasliai lake) 10k.

This month we are supporting a fellow member's passion in rehoming and fostering for strays from Greece. Paul Loader and his partner Twitch founded this animal trust which has helped recuse and rehome hundreds of animals.
We do this because we are "primarily" Vegan Activists - although we also do some running !

His latest win in the highly popular half-marathon in his capital city of Lithuania, Vilniaus in a time of 1:12:13 which was 9 minutes and 59 seconds ahead of second place. (23June2024)
This month (June) our club supported a fund raising initiative for Ferne Animal Sanctuary - with club members and the club contributing at least 50% to the amount raised.
Ferne is a long established sanctuary that provides a home to many animals and also operates a rehoming service.
Our May initiative to raise funds for Green Tara was also successful. The club is proud to be an initiator and contributor to such good causes.
This time its the If Valniaus pusmaratonis (half marathon) where Andrius had to battle it our with Modestas Dirse almost all the way until the final hill when Andrius managed to create a small gap which he then maintained to finish line. It was a tough course and there was some rain before the start that made the section of cobbles more difficult for running. Finish time was 72:13. 25May2024
Our club rescue initiative to save two innocent woolly victims from imminent slaughter was completed on 20th May after they undertook their four hour journey to the sanctuary. Here they are (pictured) just settling in at there new home - The Retreat.
Roisin and Rebecca are just one year old and can now expect another 10 or 11 years at the tranquil sanctuary where they will form many relationships with humans and other species who are resident there.
A big thank you to Kevin Doherty our Club Activism Coordinator (or Boris the Pig fame) who championed this project and created much enthusiasm around it - ensuring its success.
Congratulations to Kevin Docherty for reaching the target of £500 in his Bristol 10k fund raiser. It was a hot day and a warm dark costume so it must have been a challenge to avoid excessive heat.
And thank you to the many contributors including members of Vegan Runners UK who kindly helped in reaching the target. The funds all go towards the Retreat Animal Rescue Sanctuary.
This was one of four fund raising initiatives since the club was founded in February. So far we have exceeded £2,000 for the benefit of various sanctuaries and rescue initiatives.
Many congratulations to our club member Andrius Jaksevicius who competed in his first marathon since April 2021 - the long gap being due to an injuries. On Sunday 19th May he finished his 20th Marathon taking first place at 'Vilties begimas'. This was his fourth attempt at this event and he achieved a course PB of 2:32 wearing his new club vest.

One of our members will be dressed as a ewe for his Bristol 10k run on 18th May to support the latest initiative reported on our Activism page. As we reach our target the rest of the funds will go to the sanctuary homing Roisin and Rebecca.
Our initiative to save Roisin and Rebecca has surpassed expectations. The target has been well exceeded (by £105). We'll be writing to thank all contributors and ask for their consent to carry forward the surplus to next months initiative. (28April2024)

Adored one day and devoured the next - lambs are the epitome of cognitive dissonance. In the UK lambs are sent to slaughter at the very young age of 10 weeks to one year – the average age of death is six to seven month, Roisin and Rebecca have been more fortunate having enjoyed a whole 12 months of life but their remaining days are few without our intervention.

Green Tara Animal Sanctuary in Rochester, Kent, was started in February 2022 by Vegan Running Club member Debra Gates. After many years of rescuing turkeys at Christmas, ex-commercial hens and stray, old or sick cats, she decided she might as well formally start running an animal sanctuary,
Our activism coordinator has announced that our first club organised fund raiser has now exceeded the £500 target for the Second Chance Society. The team are now discussing an April initiative.

As a group of passionate VEGAN RUNNING CLUB members we feel it vitally important that we reduce suffering of animals wherever practically possible, through our choices and actions , please join us in trying to raise £500 for this absolutely amazing Animal rescue/sanctuary in Southampton.
A couple of years ago one of our members was instrumental in the rescue of a young pig from death row. Two years on we learn here that Boris is enjoying a very happy life - unlike the 2 billion pigs yearly that that less fortunate ending.
Some club members have booked for the first ever UK Vegan and Animal Rights Conference in Manchester. The conference fine is an example of how disparate vegan organisations can collaborate, share ideas and initiatives to collectively further the vegan cause - as all dedicated vegan organisations should.

Vegan Running Club is now a registered member of the Association of Running Clubs. ARC is the fully democratic and accountable governing body for running clubs, providing what clubs need (such as insurance cover) at lower cost and without unnecessary regulation. 3Mar24
