LET'S NOT FORGET OUR PETS TOO.
At least one quarter of all human-generated greenhouse gas emissions to date can be traced to the livestock industry. Vast tracts are used to grow feed crops and to graze the world’s 92 billion cows, pigs, chickens and other animals slaughtered each year. This hunger for land means livestock farming is a leading cause of deforestation, as well as a significant drain on freshwater. Read More or listen to the podcast on the Conversation.

A study examined the cardiovascular health markers showed improvements in the dogs fed the plant-based diet over 12-month. Specifically, there was a decrease in median levels of cardiac troponin I (cTnI), a marker of myocardial injury, as well as a decrease in median levels of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), a marker of heart failure.
Recent studies have explored the health impacts of vegan diets on dogs. Knight et al. (2022) found that dogs fed vegan diets had fewer health disorders compared to those on conventional meat diets. Similarly, Davies (2022) reported guardian-observed improvements in various health indicators for dogs fed a vegan diet. Dodd et al. (2022) noted that owners perceived better health and longevity in dogs on plant-based diets, though they acknowledged the need for objective research. In 2023 Linde et al concluded that domestic dogs maintain positive clinical, nutritional, and hematological health outcomes when fed a commercial plant-based diet for a year.
