Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Staff may use their personal electronic devices in an academic setting to access the school division’s wireless network. Staff BYOD devices are set up using the VBCPSChannel network. Staff are expected to install the required Securly certificate on their own devices. It is recommended that the Securly certificate be installed BEFORE attempting to connect to the VBCPSChannel network.

Since there are literally thousands of devices that could be brought to school, there is no technical assistance provided other than providing the name of the wireless connection. Staff are expected to know how to connect, care for, and troubleshoot their own devices.

Staff cannot print from their personal (BYOD) devices in school. 

Staff cannot access network resources such as computer lab folders and copiers, but they may be able to access resources such as ClassLink, Office 365, and Google Apps for Education, as well as other web-based instructional resources. ​There is no guarantee that BYOD devices can access school resources.

The recommended way to access school resources and educational resources is through a school-issued device.
