Academic Support

Our Academic Rules

The University has a number of policies and procedures relating to students’ rights and responsibilities Therefore, UWS Student Experience Policy Statement was created to ensure this. It is built on positive collaboration between staff and students, for a positive learning experience and enhanced opportunities for success. Below are the requirements expected from students attending UWS.

Attendance & Engagement

How often do I need to attend classes?

Firstly, check your programme and module handbook. This will make clear what learning activities are required for physical class participation. This is important as students may require certain equipment or develop a core skill that is mandatory to pass your class.

Using your student email, log into Aula here, to access programme information.

What is the student requirement engagement for classes?

It is mandatory that students are engaging with their modules. Each module will vary in requirements, please check the module handbook. The University will monitor each student’s personal engagement individually, using a variety of data which may include:

It is recognised that from time to time all students will have reasons why engagement with their studies is difficult due to personal reasons, therefore UWS aims to provide as much flexibility as possible for students.

What platforms will UWS use to deliver learning content?

Students will experience sector-leading, high-quality social learning using UWS’s new social learning platform, Aula.

Your academics at UWS will use Aula to deliver an engaging, accessible and impactful hybrid learning experience. Aula will ensure that you have seamless communication, collaboration and support from your academics and peers and provide you with instant access to learning content. Aula is a highly intuitive, easy-to-use platform which will enable you to make the most of your experience at UWS.

What happens if a student does not attend nor engage in classes?

You will be contacted by out Student Success Team and then by a member of our School of Buisness and Creative Industries to offer support and advice.

Failing to re-engage may go to the next step below::

Assumed Withdrawal

Where students have demonstrated no evidence of engaging with the University for six or more weeks during term time they will be assumed to have withdrawn. “No evidence of engaging” under this procedure includes:

General FAQs

What are the core platforms students require access to at UWS?

Students will require access to the following platforms at UWS:

UWS Student App - The UWS Student app connects you in real-time to other UWS systems, making it easier for you to keep track of everything you need in one place.

Download the UWS Student App from the Apple or Android store or go to studentapp.uws.ac.uk

Aula and MyUWS - your Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), an online learning platform where you will find resources related to your course and information from your lecturers. It’s important that you visit your VLE regularly and participate in activities set for your classes. You can access Aula and MyUWS through the UWS Student App.

Self Service Banner - Self Service Banner is the system that maintains your student record. It is really important that you familiarise yourself with this and that you keep your personal details up-to-date. We use the information held here in case of emergency, for example if the campus should suddenly be closed. This system is where you complete your enrolment; find out about your Personal Tutor; view your confirmed grades; request Council Tax exemptions; and when it’s time, register for Graduation. You can access Self Service Banner through the ‘My Student Record’ tile in the UWS Student App.

Your Student Email Account & Microsoft Office365 - All UWS students are provided with a Microsoft 365 account. This includes your student email account and access to Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive and much more. You can access this via the UWS Student App or by logging in to office.com with your University email address and password.

We are implementing an extra layer of security on student email through Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) - find out more here.
