Congradulations on completing your first six weeks of training! Here are some general reminders that you probably have already heard several times, but are important for you to hear again!
Be on time and ready to help students at your scheduled start time
Keep sessions to about 30 minutes or less. Hard cutoff at 45 mins.
During slower days, the maximum wait time to check in with the student is 3 mins.
Make sure you're taking breaks; at most three back-to-back sessions before you take at least a 5 minute break
You’re also entitled to one 10-minute paid break per shift.
You are required to take a 30 min. unpaid break during a shift of 5+ hours. This includes meetings if you work all of Friday.
Always greet students in a friendly manner.
You must lock your computer if you walk away from it on shift. It is a FERPA violation to leave student information on your screen for others to read.
Keep phone usage to a minimum. Step outside of the Learning Commons if you need to take a call.
If you are watching non-academic material, please make sure your screen is not visible to those using the Learning Commons.
Wear your name tag so students know your name and Coordinators know who is on shift.
Timesheets are due every first and 16th of the month
When you are in the Learning Commons - on shift or not - you are a representative of the University of Washington, Bothell. Please act accordingly and professionally.
This means keeping discussions and noise level work appropriate. Inappropriate conversations, especially about other UWB students, faculty, or staff are grounds for termination.
Please review the Expectations page of the Learning Commons handbook.
You are expected to be on Zoom at all times during your shift. This is to ensure the lowest wait times possible and to avoid as many unexpected technical difficulties as possible.
Zoom can drain your battery, so make sure to have a charger on you.
Make sure your name on Zoom follows this pattern: "Name - role"
There are a couple tabs that you are required to be actively checking during your shift:
Navigate queues (Appointment Center)
Navigate staff home (to start sessions)
Online queue
Discord
Email (optional, but make sure you're checking your UW email daily!)
Quarter 1 - Week 7 - Check in with your mentor 1
Double-check with your mentor that you know how to use Navigate properly. Walk them through how you...
Start an in-person session
Start an online session
End a session (including filling out the Appointment Summary)
Schedule your availability to view/use the queues properly
