As the instructor of a community-engaged course, your role will involve supporting students to understand their CEL experiences in the context of systems and social issues centered in your course. We know that every student will come to build these reflections with their own set of lived experiences and previously held understandings, and that it can be challenging to facilitate these reflection spaces when you are not directly connected the the community partners yourselves. If at any point during the quarter you'd like to connect with our team for thought partnership around the reflections you're seeing in your class, please reach out to engage@uw.edu.Â
If students are reporting any of the below during their reflections on community engagement, we ask that you please encourage them to reach out to our team. If students are more comfortable speaking with you directly, you can also reach out to us on their behalf:
-Lack of response from their site supervisor (after following suggestions seen under FAQs for students)
-Microaggressions or harrassment at their community partner site
-Concerning behavior from a supervisor
