Orgs: Seattle/King County nonprofits, governmental orgs, schools
Roles: Community-identified roles in various kinds of work: shelters, food banks, tutoring programs, community gardens and urban farms, and many more settings.
CELE’s CEC team tries our best to match course-relevant work with your course! Due to prioritizing community needs, scheduling, and accessibility considerations, we may ask for instructors’ flexibility in this process.
Time commitment: Most often, we are developing opportunities in the 3-5 hours/week range, for weeks 3-10 of the quarter. Typically, students who fulfill this commitment will reach 20-25 hours over the length of the quarter. See more about this variability in the quarterly timelines page of this module.
In cases where the commitment for a placement differs from this norm, this will be reflected in the position description available to students through Expo. For example, a specific role may require UW students to sign up for a handful of day-long volunteer events rather than 3-5 hours/week.
Self placements: Students who have pre-existing community engagements may be able to use their work for community-engaged learning. More on this in our syllabus and assignments module.
