Through CELE’s Community-Engaged Courses (CEC) program, UW students volunteer with community-based organizations as part of a quarter-long course.
Through this program and others, the CELE Center’s goal is to build and sustain reciprocal relationships that simultaneously meet community-defined needs while advancing the learning goals of students and their instructors.
We will commonly use the acronym CEC to refer to the Community-Engaged Courses program. We will refer to the student and professional staff who coordinate this program as "the CEC team".
Throughout this training, some terms will be used interchangeably to describe community-based organizations:
-Community partner
-CP (community partner abbreviated)
-Community partner organization
At CELE, we commonly use the term "community-engaged learning" (sometimes CEL) in our practices. This may also be known to you as "community-based learning," and has formerly been known as "service-learning."
