In The Orientation Shoppe, we mentioned there is a valuable and unique feature in the Canvas Observer that allows you to monitor your child's lesson completion status for all courses -- the Missing Submissions Report.
The Missing Submissions report was developed by our internal UVA Technology Department so our Learning Coaches can generate a nicely formatted, printable report that is comprehensive and easy to read. Although student's Canvas accounts include a feature (the Alert Bell) that generates a list of overdue assignments, its format is very different and more challenging to read if the list contains more than three or four assignments.
That said, it is important to know how to generate both reports. We recommend that Learning Coaches hold students accountable for running the Alert Bell report every day, and Learning Coaches are asked to generate the Missing Submissions report each day as well.

The Alert Bell is located in the Student's Canvas account. It generates a student version of the missing assignment report. Although the Observer account's report is easier to view and print, this report is perfect for students who check the Alert Bell every day.
