Although we believe our training provides the level of detail that you and our students require, there is always more to learn. When you want additional information, Canvas guides are a great source.
This section explains how to access Canvas Guides that answer questions and provide navigation guidance. Adding these guides to your Learning Coach toolbox will be very helpful.
Canvas Observer Guide
Learning Coaches are Observers in Canvas (if you created your account; did you?). You can view your child's lessons, grade book, lesson submission status, and more. The Canvas Observer Guide explains:
Important Canvas terminology
How the Calendar works
How to navigate to your destination
How to interpret what you are seeing in Canvas

Please review the entire guide. "Profile and User Settings" is the section that explains how to receive Canvas notifications via your personal email account.
2. Canvas Student Guide
The student guide is very detailed. We do not use all of the available features but the guide explains the features that we use. When you are more familiar with Canvas, you will recognize the names of the features that we use.
Access the very helpful and detailed guide here . (Consider bookmarking the guide on your child's laptop for quick access later. Bookmark it on your personal device as well.)
3. Inbox Tool
The Inbox is used for messaging in Canvas. You and your child each have a Canvas Inbox to send and receive messages to/from UVA personnel. Although teachers use Remind and your Learning Coach Partner uses Remind almost exclusively, teachers communicate most often through the Canvas Inbox. Access the tool by clicking the Inbox icon in the green navigation bar in Canvas. Learn about the Inbox -- including how to attach and view documents -- in this guide.
NOTE: We do not use all of the features of the Inbox.
4. Canvas Parent App
You can install a Canvas Parent App for your Android or iOS smart device. We recommend that you take advantage of this app, especially if you are away from the home during your child's standard school time. The app allows you to monitor and stay abreast of your child's daily progress even if you are not in the learning environment with the child during the day.

We encourage you to take advantage of the ability to monitor your child's daily progress while mobile. You can also log in to your Canvas Observer account with the device's browser.
5. General Canvas Help
You have access to a large library of guides and help files in Canvas. If what you are looking for is not found in the guides mentioned above, use the Lynx button in the green navigation bar to access the library of guides.
The link to click to search the Canvas Guides is circled in purple on the screenshot of the Lynx page pop out in Canvas. Just click the Lynx button to view the pop out, and click "Search the Canvas Guides", circled in red in the image.
