Carbon CREW Project
This is a book club with a mission to reverse global warming, using Damon Gameau’s visionary documentary 2040 to inspire a community of action based on the science-backed solutions of Paul Hawken and Project Drawdown. Research from the U.N. Environmental Program Report has found that ⅔’s of all greenhouse gas emissions come from decisions at the household level. Therefore, what individuals do is critical to our planet’s health. Corporations and governments will not change unless we do. “What’s my impact on the planet?” Complete a brief survey on Earth Overshoot Day to get an estimate of your carbon footprint and see the impact your lifestyle has on our planet. Compare with others in your group. “What do I do now?” Paul Hawken, founder of Project Drawdown, is always asked, as many Conservancy volunteers may be asked, “What’s the most important thing I can do to help with the climate crisis?” Come and learn how to create a Personal Climate Action Plan. This is your customized blueprint to guide you towards a regenerative lifestyle based on the most impactful things you can do. Date, Time, and Place: 5 one-hour CREW sessions - I am happy to continue to offer a CREW each month until there are no more takers! Questions? Protect Workers from Heat Injury!
Petition to protect American workers. The recently proposed Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings standard would protect approximately 36 million workers from dangerous heat conditions fueled by climate change. If you haven’t signed yet, this is your last chance! Tens of millions of indoor and outdoor workers, disproportionately people of color, are experiencing firsthand the devastating impacts of climate change in the form of extreme heat making it difficult and unsafe to do their jobs. The proposed standard from OSHA will ensure that employers protect workers by taking measures to address excessive heat conditions, such as establishing requirements for rest breaks, drinking water, and training for the signs of heat-related illness. It is crucial OSHA acts now to protect workers and ensure climate-resilient and safe workplaces. Sign this petition.
Tell Home Depot: Don't Sell Bee-Killing Pesticides
Neonicotinoid pesticides are deadly to bees, but that's not all. Neonics are also extremely addictive. Once a bee lands on a flower treated with neonics, it will return again and again, even as the pesticide destroys its brain and nervous system.1 If you wanted to kill bees, it's hard to think of a more twisted or manipulative way to do it. Many of these neonic pesticides are still being sold by home improvement stores, including Home Depot. Tell Home Depot: Stop selling bee-killing pesticides.
One study has shown that once bees get a taste of pesticides, bees actually prefer neonic-treated pollen to pesticide-free food.2 Once they find a flower with neonics, they might use their incredible communication skills to tell all their friends to go to that flower - thus sending them to their deaths. Perhaps neonics' deadly appeal shouldn't come as a surprise -- they are closely related to nicotine. Bees are essential creatures -- all they want to do is buzz from flower to flower, fulfilling their natural role as pollinators. But with neonics, that need to pollinate is what seals the bees' fate.
Pesticides are intended to protect plants, but instead neonics kill the pollinators that plants depend upon.
That's why we're calling on Home Depot to stop selling these dangerous bee-killing pesticides and give bees a chance to buzz from flower to flower in safety.
Add your name: Home Depot needs to take neonics off its shelves.
Home Depot has already taken some measures to limit neonic pesticides. At the encouragement of Environment Florida and our national network, the company agreed to phase out neonics in all its plants by 2018.3 But that isn't sufficient. Home Depot still sells neonic pesticides for lawn care and other purposes. We need to encourage Home Depot to finish the job and stop selling these toxic bee-killing pesticides entirely.
Tell Home Depot: No more neonics.

There are many great websites, videos, news articles and other sources of environmental information we would like to share and you may enjoy looking at. Some are good news articles like one in a great website: environmentamerica.org. The website reported that legislation on a proposal to restrict communities from taking action on plastic waste was stalled in the Florida Senate after many Floridians spoke up against it. They also mentioned a recent Department of Environmental Protection survey that found that 93% of Florida residents felt that single-use plastic regulations are necessary. One fascinating environmental protection organization's website you may enjoy exploring is: EarthJustice.org. Please consider texting "SAFETY" to 43428 to urge the EPA to strengthen the Toxic Substance Control Act!
