Mision Peniel
In February, we had four days of freezing temperatures. The damage to crops means that harvesting would need to be stopped weeks earlier than usual. This, of course, affects the farmworkers’ income.
In addition to the damaged agriculture, families are being separated through detentions and deportations, even those with legal status. There is a great deal of anxiety among those who remain. Many are afraid to leave their home.
One way to support the farmworkers is through contributions to Mision Peniel. We have a box in the front foyer with a list of suggested donations. The list includes: long sleeved work shirts sized S, M or L, work and tennis shoes sized 6, 7, 8 and 9, towels, blankets, bags of rice and dry pinto beans, canned meat (not tuna), cereal, cooking oil and canned vegetables.
Split the Plate 2nd Sundays!
Half the collections will go to an organization chosen by the Social Justice Committee.
"All Plate Donation Cash & Non- Pledge Checks are split between UUCGN & the nonprofits. If there is any outstanding pledge, checks go towards that unless there is a note on the memo line to split or give all to the nonprofit or another cause."
