Collection for Mision Peniel
Our local farmworkers have always struggled with food insecurity. Now, families in Immokalee need even greater help because ICE raids have taken the sole financial provider in many of the families. Beginning on October 3, UUCGN will be collecting nonperishable food, toiletries and diapers for the farmworkers in Immokalee. Our program will end on Nov. 16. Plastic bins will be provided out in the foyer to place your contributions. Thank you for showing your solidarity with the people who pick our vegetables and fruit.
Items needed: shaving cream, hand towels, deodorant, Gallon ziploc bags, socks for all ages, shampoo-regular size, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, baby wipes, rice, pinto beans, diapers-sizes 2, 5, 6 & 7, Any non-perishable food

Immokalee Experience Outing
Saturday, January 17, 8:30 am - 1:30 pm
Some Immokalee leaders have organized a cultural immersion experience for people who want to learn more about our sister community. It will include a visit to the Pioneer Museum to learn about Immokalee’s early history and why immigrants came to the community. We will also hear from an expert about the important agricultural economy and a farmworker’s life. Then we will go to Cultivate Abundance, a community garden, to learn about ancestral foods and a Food As Medicine hands-on activity.
Lastly, we’ll have lunch at a Mexican or Haitian restaurant and visit the Immokalee Farmers Market to support local businesses. We can carpool from the UU to meet in Immokalee at 9:30 am. The cost is $25 pp (for museum admission and to compensate the trip guides) plus the cost of your lunch. If you are interested in participating, please text or call Ellen Resnick at 973-886-0175.
